Bad Romance Fantasy

Bad Romance Fantasy

Bad Romance Fantasy was written in early 2010 for saxophone quartet. The inescapable hook from the Lady Gaga single Bad Romance is stretched, phased, squashed, and mangled over the course of the piece. I’ll leave you to decide if the music is a celebration or destruction of the tune. Or, if you’d really prefer, both a celebration and a destruction.

The chart requires some relentless focus from each performer, and I can’t thank enough the Garden State Saxophone Quartet for bringing the piece to life. The quartet consists of Miguel Bolivar (soprano), Robert Harvey (alto), Ellis Jasenovic (tenor), and Robert Quinn (baritone). The video is from the premiere performance at Dalet Art Gallery on June 17, 2011.
