- Detroit is planning to stop lighting certain parts of town. Detroit’s depopulation has been steady, so one would think that their resources for police, transportation, and public works would shrink. It would be in the city’s interest to concentrate its population into a smaller area to make its jobs manageable. That does not abdicate the city from its responsibility to create a safe environment for people not currently living in its preferred neighborhoods. Turning off city lights purposefully to encourage people to relocate to other neighborhoods rings as borderline criminal to my ears.
